A Memorandum of Understanding of Cooperation was concluded between the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) during an official ceremony on 27 March 2024 for another round of five years as of 2024 to 2029 to define common partnership goals in the humanitarian field.

The MoU will act as the partnership framework during next five years between the IRCS and the ICRC and, as a principled framework for partnership relations, it seeks to ensure interactive-based cooperation aimed at achieving maximum humanitarian impact with maximum compliance with the fundamental principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. The signing of this agreement is demonstrative of the mutual commitment of the parties to develop, strengthen and enhance their cooperation in Iran.

The statute and the strategic plan of the Iranian national society, and the policy document of the international committee of the red cross (ICRC) are the bases for this cooperation. Other relevant laws and policies of the international RC/RC movement have also been considered in the drafting of this agreement.

At the ceremony, the MoU was signed by the ICRC Head of delegation in Tehran, Mr. Vincent Cassard, and President of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Dr. Pirhossein Koulivand. This memorandum includes commitments and programs of cooperation in various areas including health, physical rehabilitation, international humanitarian law (IHL), protecting family links, management of human remains, strengthening communication and humanitarian positioning, and coordination withing the RC/RC movement and risk awareness and safer behavior in the face of mine hazards.
