Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė
Dr Gabija Grigaitė-Daugirdė is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Law of Vilnius University, Director of the NOHA (Network on Humanitarian Action) programme at Vilnius University, and a member of the Lithuanian Commission on International Humanitarian Law. She previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, where her work focused on international law, sanctions and export controls, as well as questions relating to the responsibility of Russia and Belarus for violations of international law and Lithuania’s representation in international organizations.
Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she served as Deputy Minister of Justice of Lithuania, working on issues related to the crime of aggression against Ukraine, the application of international and EU law in public policy, and the representation of Lithuania in international legal forums. She began her professional career as a legal adviser to the Parliament of Lithuania and later spent six years as legal adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaitė, where she worked on ensuring compliance of legislative processes with national, international and EU law.
Dr Grigaitė-Daugirdė holds a PhD in international law from Vilnius University, where her research focused on the legality of the use of force for humanitarian purposes in international law. She also studied at Ghent University in Belgium and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Vilnius University, specializing in international finance. For more than fifteen years, she has taught international public law, international humanitarian law and international criminal law at Vilnius University and other academic institutions, while also coaching teams for international moot court competitions. Since 2019, she has been a member of the Lithuanian Bar Association.
