Najum Ul Saqib Iqbal
Najum currently serves as the Head of Communications for the Regional Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in East Asia, based in Beijing. In this role, Najum assumes responsibility for managing the ICRC’s external communication and public relations efforts across China, Mongolia, the Republic of Korea, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
Prior to his assignment in Beijing, Najum held the position of Head of Communications for the Asia and Pacific region at the ICRC’s headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, where he dedicated nearly four years to advancing the organization’s communication strategies in the region. With an extensive professional journey spanning 18 years in the field of humanitarian communications, Najum has served with the ICRC in diverse contexts including Pakistan, Afghanistan, South Sudan, and Bangladesh. His expertise encompasses a broad spectrum of areas, such as strategic communications, reputational management, acceptance and influence-building, international humanitarian law, information as aid, and crisis communication.
Najum’s academic qualifications include degrees in Global Diplomacy from the University of London, Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Defence University of Islamabad, and Law from the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir. Najum is married and has two sons.
