Mariana Chacón Lozano

Mariana Chacón Lozano has served as the Operational Legal Coordinator for the ICRC in Colombia since October 2020. She was previously the ICRC’s Operational Legal Coordinator in Ukraine (2018-2020) and Iraq (2015-2017), as well as Deputy Protection Coordinator for the Missing in Ukraine (2017-2018). Between 2011 and 2015 she was also the Legal Adviser at the ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Lima, covering Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru. She holds a Master’s in Human Rights at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), where she concluded her law studies.
Mariana is the author and co-author of articles on international human rights law (IHRL), international humanitarian law (IHL) and transitional justice (TJ). She has co-organized human rights competitions (Yachay, PUCP) and has participated, coached and judged in the Jean Pictet Competition.
