Stephen Kilpatrick

Stephen Kilpatrick is a graduate of the University of London, King’s College and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. An infantry officer, he completed tours of Germany, Belize and Northern Ireland (4 tours) before returning to Sandhurst as an instructor. He attended the UK Advanced Command and Staff College, undertook appointments in the UK MOD and the British HQ in Bosnia before returning to the training staff at Sandhurst. He assumed responsibility for the training of all UK troops and police officers deploying to the Balkans before assuming command of an armoured infantry battalion in England and in Kosovo, for which he was decorated by Her Majesty the Queen.
A 2 year tour in Kenya and responsibility for training African troops for deployment on Peace Support Operations included a short tour to China where he designed and delivered the training package for the first PLA Engineering Company to deploy to Sudan. This was followed by operational appointments in Iraq, Iran and Pakistan. After a tour as the Director of Studies at the UK Joint Command and Staff College he undertook a 12-month tour as the Chief of Staff of the military HQ of the UN Mission in South Sudan. His final appointment was as the UK Director of Studies at the Kuwait Military Staff College.
He joined the ICRC in April 2016 as an Armed Forces Delegate, and his last appointment was in the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. He is currently the Military & Armed Groups Thematic Advisor on Urban Warfare; military involvement in law enforcement operations and the ICRC Flagship Military Course: the SWIRMO.
