The Enable Makeathon programme – a flagship initiative of the ICRC – was held over 60 days between November 2015 and January 2016. It was composed of an ‘Online Track’ for teams from all around the world and an ‘Onsite Track’ with a series of events in Bengaluru, India.

As part of this, Maker Teams worked towards finding innovative solutions aimed at creating the next generation of affordable assistive devices for persons with physical disabilities living in rural areas. Of the 30 teams that participated, 17 reached the final round.

This video captures the spirit of Demo Day – 23 January 2016 – when the final prototypes were showcased to judges along with members of the civil society,  representatives from the disability sector, and the media. Team Mobility India came first, Team Aseem came second, while Team RightFit Prosthetics came third. They were awarded seed money in form of prizes to the tune of USD 25,000, 15,000 and 10,000 respectively.
