The changing nature of armed conflict and its important implications for the continuing relevance of International Humanitarian Law — as the legal system governing the conduct of the armed conflict — will be at the heart of deliberations at the fifth edition of the National Students Conference on IHL being organised by the Centre for International Humanitarian Law Studies, Institute of Law, Nirma University,  Ahmedabad (Gujarat) on 19 February, 2016. The International Committee of the Red Cross supports this annual flagship event of the university.

Some of the key themes that will be discussed at this year’s conference include ‘Syrian Crisis and European Refugee Crisis’, ‘The applicability and ramifications for International humanitarian law in Syria and Iraq’, ‘Increased attacks on humanitarian workers and humanitarian aid’, ‘The role of Non-State actors in taking forward the humanitarian dialogue’, and ‘New Weapons technology and IHL’, among others.

The conference offers a platform for interaction between eminent personalities, students, policy makers, organizations and other stakeholders. The best papers will be rewarded at the concluding session of the conference.
