Exactly one year ago, the ICRC’s flagship event Enable Makeathon was in full swing. The 60-day programme brought together over 100 participants — including technology and design experts, persons with disabilities and mentors — who developed solutions and products for persons with disabilities in rural areas which helped diminish physical, social as well as psychological barriers. The ICRC’s broad collaboration with the government, the private sector and the academia made it possible for innovative minds from diverse fields across the world to create life-changing devices for persons with disability living in rural areas.

On International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we bring you the story of one of the Enable Makeathon participants — Naidhroven — from Chennai whose courage helped him regain his independence and mobility after suffering from an accident. Listen to him as he speaks to Ashirbad S. Raha of the ICRC about his prototype of a small electric mobility scooter that could be operated by physically challenged persons without anyone’s assistance.
