The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Regional Delegation, New Delhi, is pleased to announce the 14th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Competition — National Zonal Rounds 2014, in collaboration with the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi.

The Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Competition has been revamped and a new structure has been introduced in the 14th edition of the competition. Based on a series of discussions, the ISIL and the ICRC have jointly decided to introduce two zonal rounds in the competition. The aim of this move is to provide students of universities and other academic institutions greater exposure and opportunities to understand IHL. The expansion into the zonal round format will add value to the larger vision of dissemination of IHL.

The two zones for the 2014 Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Competition are North Zone and South Zone with the following division of States:

North Zone: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, MP, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal

South Zone: Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Orissa, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu

The predominant aim of the Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition is to promote awareness and understanding of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) among law students. The Moot Court Competition, since its inception in 2000, has witnessed the participation of more than 65 teams from across the country and has provided ample opportunity for law students to engage in issues in IHL and familiarize themselves with its application and enforcement.

The ISIL and ICRC are delighted to partner with the Institute of Law, Nirma University Ahmedabad, Gujarat, for the North Zone from 1-3 August 2014 and with the Department of Legal Studies, University of Madras, for the South Zone from 18-20 July 2014. The India National Final Rounds will be organised by the ISIL in New Delhi from 15-17 August 2014.

We cordially invite your esteemed institution to participate in the competition by sending a team comprising three students and a coach/teacher. The competition is open to all students pursuing their undergraduate or masters degree in law from a recognized university/institution.
