The economic security programme begun in June 2014 by the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) and ICRC in the Khagrachari, Bandarban and Rangamati districts of Chittagong Hill Tracts (southern Bangladesh) has been helping vulnerable families and communities regain their capacity to cover their essential needs with dignity.

With additional training and services provided by the local administration, all the households involved have started to benefit from a notable growth in their income – increasing their resilience in the face of natural disasters and violence which have disrupted many of their lives. Some have used it to plant rice fields, some have bought a rickshaw to offer transport services and many have opened small businesses.

This video provides more insight into the programme and its impact.
