According to International wheelchair basketball coach Mark Walker, rather sadly, people with “varied abilities” in most countries are simply ignored. The vastly experienced coach sounded a note of warning to all too when he said “we are all just one accident or one step away from having a disability ourselves.”

The ICRC New Delhi Blog caught up with him at the 1st National Wheelchair Basketball Championship to understand how games and sports are important for bringing hope, cheer as well as dignity to people with disabilities. In this conversation the coach underlines why developing deeper understanding and providing more access are vital in our efforts to assist and mainstream people with disabilities. In this illuminating conversation, the ICRC New Delhi Blog takes a glimpse into the passion that infuses a spirit of sportsmanship and pride in people with disabilities.
