The ICRC’s economic security work strives to ensure that households and communities can cover their unavoidable expenditures and maintain or restore sustainable livelihoods. These programs are in two broad categories:

Health

HEALTH CARE AND MEDICAL SUPPORT: 421,500 BENEFICIARIES

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The ICRC’s support includes provision of quality medical supplies and equipment, rehabilitation of medical facilities, capacity building of health staff and volunteers, payment of salaries and running costs in primary health care clinics and hospitals.

 

 

 

 

 

WATER AND HABITAT: 256,773 BENEFICIARIES

 

 

 

 

 

 

The aim is to facilitate the access to safe water supplies and improve sanitation conditions.

 

 

 

 

 

DETENTION-RELATED ACTIVITIES: 4,634 BENEFICIARIES

 

 

 

 

 

 

ICRC detention visits aim to ensure that prisoners are treated with dignity and humanity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Restoring Family Links

RESTORING FAMILY LINKS: 67,282 BENEFICIARIES

 

 

 

 

 

In the turmoil of disaster and conflict, family members can be separated. The ICRC, the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and the network of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies try to locate people and put them back into contact with their relatives.
