The ICRC’s economic security work strives to ensure that households and communities can cover their unavoidable expenditures and maintain or restore sustainable livelihoods. These programs are in two broad categories:
The ICRC’s support includes provision of quality medical supplies and equipment, rehabilitation of medical facilities, capacity building of health staff and volunteers, payment of salaries and running costs in primary health care clinics and hospitals.
The aim is to facilitate the access to safe water supplies and improve sanitation conditions.
ICRC detention visits aim to ensure that prisoners are treated with dignity and humanity.
In the turmoil of disaster and conflict, family members can be separated. The ICRC, the Somali Red Crescent Society (SRCS) and the network of National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies try to locate people and put them back into contact with their relatives.
The aim is to increase knowledge and respect of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and humanitarian principles.
