The 28th South Asia Teaching Session on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) was recently organised by the ICRC together with the Indian Society of International Law from 23-28 October, 2016 in New Delhi. Government officials, members of the armed forces, police services, academics and representatives of civil society organisations participated in the six-day deliberations.
SATS is annually held to enhance knowledge of IHL among civil and military officials as well as academicians working in the fields of international law, international relations and defence studies. It also offers a platform for participants from South Asian and neighbouring countries to discuss contemporary challenges to humanitarian law.
The workshop included sessions on Means and Methods of Warfare, Protection of Civilians, IHL and Peacekeeping, Sexual Violence during Armed Conflict, among many others, which comprised presentations along with interactive exercises.
