The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement promotes road safety around the world and encourages first-responders to come forward and provide immediate relief to victims in all disaster situations. It is regrettable, however, that today road accidents cause the most number of deaths in India. That it is the biggest man-made disaster which has been recurring at an alarming rate every year will not be an overstatement.
In India, what is even more unfortunate is that while many bystanders and passers-by feel the urge to help someone lying injured on the road, the thought of getting caught up in the ensuing legal and procedural problems would often hold them back.
This year, however, a landmark step has been taken to transform this system. Listen in to Piyush Tewari, Founder of SaveLIFE Foundation, as he throws light on the Good Samaritan Law – which offers the much-needed protection and encouragement to every individual who comes forward to help when it counts the most.
