As the World Humanitarian Summit draws near, we bring you a series of blogposts highlighting three critical humanitarian concerns that are bound to feature during the discussions on 23-24 May 2016 in Istanbul – Migration, Compliance with International Humanitarian Law & Principles Guiding Humanitarian Action. The Summit aims to bring together international stakeholders for the first time and is expected to host more than 6000 members of the global community next week.

The first of this three-blogpost series is an interview done by Intercross Blog with ICRC President Peter Maurer in which he underlines the challenges associated with migration and the pressing need to come up with political solutions to the crisis we face today. As millions of people continue to flee armed conflict, violence, persecution, and poverty, he emphasizes that the world leaders should start looking at migration as an opportunity.
