Failure to find political solutions in areas of violent crisis is forcing the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to extend its core humanitarian remit, says organisation’s president Peter Maurer. Maurer further said that the volume, complexity and duration of the current emergencies was forcing the ICRC to re-examine the mechanics and aims of its responses.
