Jacob Kurtzer leads the ICRC’s engagement with faith-based organizations and diaspora communities in the United States. Mr. Kurtzer previously worked for the ICRC in Israel and the occupied territories, served as head of public and congressional affairs for the Washington delegation, and carried out short assignments in Juba, South Sudan, and Rakhine State, Myanmar. Mr. Kurtzer was formerly the Director of the Humanitarian Agenda at CSIS, worked in the political section of the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and was an advocate at Refugees International (RI). Mr. Kurtzer began his career as a legislative assistant to Congressman Robert Wexler. He holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, where he studied as a Rotary Foundation World Peace Fellow, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of Maryland, College Park.
