Prior to joining the Washington office, Mr. Kurtzer was Communications Coordinator for the ICRC in Israel and the occupied territories. He has also served as head of public and congressional affairs for the Washington Delegation of the ICRC between 2011 and 2014, and carried out short assignments in Juba, South Sudan, and Rakhine State, Myanmar. Previously, Mr. Kurtzer was Director and Senior Fellow with the Humanitarian Agenda program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and worked for a year in the political section of the American Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. From 2007-2009, he served as congressional advocate at Refugees International (RI), a humanitarian advocacy organization based in Washington, DC. Mr. Kurtzer began his career as a legislative assistant to Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida. Mr. Kurtzer holds an MA in Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, where he studied as a Rotary Foundation World Peace Fellow.
