It’s 50 years since the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement adopted the Fundamental Principles, which define our humanitarian action. Many of these Principles, not least Neutrality and Impartiality, were the drivers of the Movement’s creation in the first place, more than 150 years ago.

Today, in Israel and the Occupied Territories, if we look around the news – it’s as important a time as ever to show how much they matter to our work, for ICRC, the Palestinian Red Crescent (PRCS), the Israeli Magen David Adom (MDA) and other sister National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies present here.

To mark ’50 Years of the Fundamental Principles’, the ICRC and our partners in Israel and the Occupied Territories are marking our support for these principles, highlighting what they mean to us as individuals – from first aiders to paramedics, community workers, programme specialists and support staff, to the leaders of our respective organisations. Over the next week, we will be posting short videos and photos of colleagues from the ICRC, PRCS and MDA ‘Standing For’ one of the Fundamental Principles on our Social Media platforms.

Please join us in supporting this campaign, to underline why these principles are so important today, and mean we can alleviate suffering where and when we are most needed.
