The results of the 19th Henry Dunant Memorial Moot Court Competition, Nepal National Rounds, were announced in Kathmandu on 12 November 2024. The prestigious competition continued to provide a platform for law students to explore and discuss contemporary issues in International Humanitarian Law (IHL).

The ceremony was presided over by the Head of Mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Nepal Office and the Legal Advisor for the ICRC Delegation for India, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives witnessed participation from seven universities. Law students and ICRC representatives exhibited their commitment to legal excellence and intellectual rigor in a vibrant gathering.

Tribhuvan University Prithvi Narayan Campus emerged victorious, with the team expressing excitement about advancing to Hong Kong for the Asia Pacific round. The winning team, comprising Shyam Yadav, Neetesh Kumar Nidhi, and Ravi Ranjan Singh, demonstrated exceptional legal acumen and teamwork. The runners-up, National Law College, Nepal, put up an impressive fight, with Sushmita Rayamajhi, Upahar Simkhada, and Rachana Subedi forming the team.

In addition to the team awards, Sadiksha Thapaliya from Kathmandu University School of Law was honoured with the Best Researcher Award, recognizing her outstanding analytical and research skills.

The Henry Dunant Moot Court Competition, organized annually by the ICRC, is renowned for fostering student engagement with critical issues in IHL. Participants must meticulously examine and present arguments from both sides of hypothetical legal cases, simulating real-world advocacy challenges.

This year’s competition also featured the ICRC’s latest challenges report and showcased informative videos, offering participants a deeper understanding of IHL’s practical application in evolving global contexts.

Congratulations to all the participants, and especially to Tribhuvan University Prithvi Narayan Campus, for their remarkable achievement. The stage is now set for the Asia Pacific rounds, and we look forward to seeing Nepal’s representatives excel on the international stage.
