The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in partnership with the O P Jindal Global University, Jindal School of International Affairs (JSIA), is hosting the Inaugural Lecture as part of the Distinguished Lecture Series on Humanitarian Law, Policy and Action. Dr Gilles Carbonnier, Vice President, ICRC, will deliver the Inaugural Lecture online titled ‘Principled Humanitarian Action: Rising to the Challenge’.
About the Lecture: The Lecture will delve into the global overview of the current humanitarian landscape, the new and developing challenges confronting humanitarian actors, the opportunities these challenges provide and how humanitarian organisations (especially the ICRC) are working in this context.
About the Speaker: Dr Gilles Carbonnier is the Vice President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and professor of development economics at Geneva’s Graduate Institute of International and Development (IHIED). Born in 1965, Dr Carbonnier holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Neuchâtel and has worked in three main fields over the past 30 years: development economics, humanitarian action and international trade. Before joining the Graduate Institute, Dr Carbonnier spent several years with the ICRC: he worked in the field from 1989 to 1991 in Ethiopia, Iraq, Sri Lanka, El Salvador and at the ICRC headquarters as an economic adviser.
