H.E. Prof. Dr. Kennedy Gastorn, Secretary General, Asian–African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO), paid a courtesy visit to Jeremy England, Head of the Regional Delegation of the ICRC for Bhutan, India, Maldives and Nepal, on October 7, 2016 in New Delhi.

Gastorn was briefed by Jeremy on the activities carried out by the ICRC in India and Nepal following which they discussed other global concerns. The need to review ways in which the two institutions work together was also expressed in order to deepen their engagement in key areas.

The AALCO chief, who is currently meeting various stakeholders, informed the ICRC Head of Delegation that the promotion of International Humanitarian Law is a key item on the agenda of AALCO.

They both also discussed emerging issues, including cyber warfare – which is an important area of interest for both AALCO and the ICRC – and its possible impact on civilians and those objects that are indispensable to the survival of the civilian population.
