Dr. Ravikant Singh, founder and president of “Doctors for You,” is full of appreciation for the benefits derived from participating in the Health in Large Populations (H.E.L.P) course conducted by the ICRC and its partners.

He was one of the 24 participants from 7 countries who attended the first ever H.E.L.P. course jointly organized by the ICRC,  Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the Indian Red Cross Society, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) in India.

The focus of the two-week course was equipping professionals with essential principles and skills in order to respond in effective and respectful ways to disaster situations, using a public health approach and upholding ethics in the conduct of relief operations.

Emphasis was also placed on disaster preparedness and response, recovery and humanitarian action during disasters.

Since its inception 29 years ago, 150 H.E.L.P courses have been organised in 22 countries for 4,000 professionals.  It is currently organised in 12 countries and attracts about 260 participants every year. This was the first ever H.E.L.P. course to be conducted in India.
