Every day, the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) receives over 100 youths between the ages of 18-28 offering to join the organisation to help those affected by the devastating earthquake that hit the country recently. This was disclosed by Dibya Raj Poudel, Head of Humanitarian Values and Communications of the Nepal Red Cross Society.

Indeed, the earthquake which hit on April 25 2015 not only caused massive devastation and a high toll in human life, it also stirred the volunteering spirit in many young Nepalese. These youths, disregarding threats from tremors (which have persisted and continue to occur at unpremeditated intervals), they trooped out to offer their time, intellect and skills in furtherance of the humanitarian intervention of the NRCS.

According to Dibya, “in the first fews days after the earthquake, an average of 9 persons offered daily to serve as volunteers and it kept growing every day. Now, we receive well over a 100 young people of both gender anxious and eager to volunteer.” These volunteers are not paid but are given snacks and a cold drink as refreshment every day.
