The ICRC recently held a pre-deployment training on international humanitarian law (IHL) for 200 officers of all ranks from the 12th Battalion of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry (12 JAK LI) contingent proceeding for a UN Peacekeeping Mission to South Sudan. The training was held at Delhi Cantonment on 25-26 September and was aimed at acquainting the army officers about the ICRC mandate, its activities and IHL applicability during peacekeeping operations.
The two-day capsule on IHL by the ICRC is institutionalised and has become a part of the curriculum for pre-deployment training of all Indian Army contingents proceeding on UN Peacekeeping Missions abroad. Here are some snapshots from the training.
