Ljiljana Tara lost her home and hearth in the Croatian War of Independence in 1991. Homeless and displaced from her hometown Lipik in Croatia, Ljiljana joined the ICRC as a housekeeper in 1992 in Belgrade.
In her 23 years here, she has grown from strength to strength. She has held the position of Finance Responsible at the ICRC headquarters in Geneva and is at present the administrator of the ICRC regional delegation in New Delhi.
Lijiljana, who lives in New Delhi with her husband Rajat Tara and four-year-old daughter Divna, is thankful to the ICRC for showing her the way when life closed its doors on her.
