Tel Aviv/Gaza/Geneva (ICRC) – The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, will begin a three-day mission to Gaza, Israel and the West Bank tomorrow to see for himself the human cost of the on-going conflict.

Mr Maurer will be meeting people directly affected by the conflict. In addition, he will be holding talks with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials and with the leadership and volunteers of the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the Magen David Adom Society, the ICRC’s main local partners.

Israel, Gaza and the West Bank have been priorities for the ICRC since 1948. The organization currently has over 380 staff providing a wide range of humanitarian services there.
