Food, basic shelter, clothing, and hygiene are essential needs; yet, in times of crisis and conflict, people often cannot cover these needs with dignity. This is when the ICRC steps in to protect and restore livelihoods through distribution of food and essential items, support to local agriculture, livestock management, and income generating activities. Innovation offers additional ways – like e-vouchers or harvest monitoring through drones/satellite imagery – to both improve affected people’s access to economic resources so that they can provide for themselves and to support evidence-based programming.
