Throughout the hunger strike, ICRC has endeavored to preserve the lives and dignity of the detainees and has ensured regular contact with their loved ones.
Since the strike began, 40 visits by delegates and doctors to Israeli places of detention and hospitals have taken place in order to monitor the conditions and treatment of detainees, especially those on prolonged hunger strike, and to ascertain that their will was respected in line with medical ethics.
Over 600 Salamat messages have been shared with the families of the hunger striking detainees in an effort to maintain family links and reassure them about their loved ones.
We maintain our dialogue with the Israeli prison service and the medical authorities concerning the re-feeding process and will continue to visit the detainees in order to monitor and follow up on their recovery.
