On Thursday 2nd October, ICRC staff member,  Laurent DuPasquier, was killed by a shell in Donetsk, east Ukraine. Last August, to mark World Humanitarian Day, ICRC president Peter Maurer had made a statement at the United Nations Security Council, Geneva. One of the topics he addressed was the protection and safety of humanitarian aid workers.

We deplore this tragedy and extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mr DuPasquier’s family.
