More than 30,000 people a day cross the line of contact in Eastern Ukraine through five official entry-exit crossing points. Crossing the contact line in the Donbas is a challenge for many thousands of people. Harsh weather conditions and long waiting hours exhaust the local population. While the ICRC remains committed to provide comfort and safety to people crossing the line, tragically, several persons have paid the ultimate price. In January 2019, our colleagues witnessed nine deaths at crossing points. Our teams, together with the local Red Cross, support the infrastructure, ensure basic services for people waiting to cross the line of contact, and increase preventive measures.
