Restoring family links

Conflict, migration, and disaster separate families, leading to years of uncertainty about the fate of loved ones. Along with National Societies, the ICRC helps people to keep in touch or re-connect during crises, exchange news, reunite families, and clarify the fate of missing persons. Different technologies – ranging from facial recognition, to online tracing, to electronic Red Cross Messages – are being explored to support and speed up these efforts. The ICRC is also pursuing a new approach to address the issue of missing migrants that combines complex systems and statistical methods of data analysis to provide answers about their fate and whereabouts.
