From 10th to 16th January 2015, the Director General of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Yves Daccord, visited India to strengthen the humanitarian organization’s engagement with key stakeholders in the country. The DG began his visit with the Vibrant Gujarat Summit in Gandhinagar and continued his interactions with the private sector on innovation in Mumbai and New Delhi. His engagement with the government was aimed at strengthening the strategic dialogue between ICRC and India on global and regional humanitarian issues. He also spent considerable time with the Indian Red Cross Society to boost cooperation on various emergencies in India.

This high-level visit was an expression of the recognition of the ICRC of India’s significant position both as a regional and global player in international affairs and within the humanitarian space. Indeed, India’s leadership in these areas is also important and relevant in many aspects to the ICRC’s humanitarian work, with a potential for greater cooperation in relevant fields.
