Jerusalem (ICRC) – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) condemns an attack which has taken place in its office in the West Bank city of Hebron.

At around eleven o’clock last night, unidentified gunmen fired several shots at ICRC’s office. Bullets penetrated the building shell as well as one vehicle. At this point in time, the ICRC has no information in relation to who carried out the attack nor the motives behind it.

“Our staff are physically unharmed. None of them were on site at the time the shooting incident took place. The incident is, however, destabilizing for our entire team”, said Gerardo Moleznik, head of the ICRC office in Hebron.

The ICRC has been present in Hebron since 1979 with a permanent presence in Israel and the Palestinian Territories as of 1967. Over the past fifty years, the ICRC has brought along a difference in many people’s lives through its various humanitarian activities and programs.

“We call for unconditional support and respect for our strictly neutral and impartial work. Absent of such support and respect, our ability to help people in need will be curtailed”, concluded Mr. Moleznik.
