We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2015 Israel National IHL Competition, which will take place in Jerusalem from Sunday until next Thursday. As part of its effort to promote awareness and understanding of international humanitarian law (IHL), the ICRC delegation in Israel and the occupied territories works with academic institutions to promote the study of this area of the law. The aim is to motivate and provide tools to a new generation of students, who will go on to assume positions of influence in the society.

This year, 9 teams from five leading academic institutions will compete. They will do so through role plays during which they may represent government advisers, representatives of the International committee of the Red Cross, etc. These Scenarios – fictional but realistic – will help them understand the challenges of implementing International Humanitarian Law and expose them to the myriad of issues which arise when this body of law is put to the test.

You are kindly invited to the finals between the two best teams on Thursday at 16.45 at the Konrad Adenauer Conference Center at Mishkenot Sha’ananim, Yemin Moshe, in Jerusalem.
